The MS-21 and Tu-214 will bring back cheap air travel for Russians

The principal shareholder of S7 Group did not rule out the return of low-cost carriers after the aircraft enter service

S7 Group may consider the issue of creating a low-cost carrier after domestic MS-21 and Tu-214 aircraft enter the market in sufficient numbers. This was announced by S7 Group principal shareholder Vladislav Filev.

We do not currently have any aircraft in the country yet. Once they make, well, the Tu-214 and MS-21, then we will see.

S7 Group had planned to create the subsidiary low-cost carrier Citrus back in 2022, but froze the project due to the effective absence of airliners. A low-cost carrier implies an airline that offers very cheap tickets by dispensing with most customary services.

S7 Group signed a memorandum with the State Transport Leasing Company (GTLK) and the United Aircraft Corporation (OAK) on the delivery of 100 Tu-214 aircraft starting in 2029. Aeroflot has been named the main recipient of the new MS-21-310, and it has already signed a second "firm" contract with OAK for 90 aircraft.
