A rare export modification of the T-90S tank with an elegant "barbecue" type "gazebo" and rear protection made of barrier fencing from a highway has appeared in the arsenal of the Russian military. Photos of the combat vehicle have gone viral on the Web.
The main feature of the tank is the Essa gunner's thermal sight with a French Thales Catherine FC matrix. Such a photodetector is capable of finding a target such as a "tank" or BMP at a distance of up to 4 km, and confidently identifying it at a distance of up to 3.7 km.
In terms of frontal projection protection, the T-90S is slightly inferior to the T-90M "Proryv". The turret's resistance to armor-piercing fin-stabilized discarding sabot projectiles, taking into account the "Kontakt-5" dynamic protection, is estimated at 950-1050 mm.
The tank is armed with a 125-mm 2A46M-5 smoothbore gun capable of using "Svinets-2" projectiles with an armor penetration of about 780 mm.
As a reminder, Russia supplied T-90S tanks to India and earned up to 6 billion dollars on this, noted Ivan Grachev, chief researcher at the Central Economics and Mathematics Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences. According to him, one unit costs up to five million dollars.
The main tank of the series in service with the Russian army is the T-90M, which began to be equipped with"Arena-M" dynamic protection. Rostec noted that the "Proryv" will be thelast before the tanks of the new generation.
