PD-8 engine for "Superjet" has a thrust problem

Flights with a full cabin are currently excluded

The PD-8 aircraft engine for the import-substituted "Superjet" does not produce the necessary thrust for flights with a full cabin. This was reported by a "Business Online" source in the aviation industry.

According to him, the power unit does not yet allow transportation on the SJ-100 with full passenger load. When the problem will be solved in the United Engine Corporation is unknown.

PD-8 certification was planned for November 2025, but now it has been postponed to the first quarter of 2026.

Recall that the thrust of the PD-8 at maximum take-off mode is 8,056 kgf. What parameters exactly the power plant produces in its current state is unknown.

The Rostec State Corporation showed unique footage of the process of manufacturing parts of the PD-8 aircraft engine for the SJ-100 aircraft. The video captured the moment of 3D printing of the oil sump, an important element of the power plant's oil system.
