Rostec Has Not Written Off Kazan Aviation Plant Despite Lack of Orders for Tu-214

KAZ Continues to Modernize the Civil Part of Production Facilities

A large-scale modernization of production is underway at the Kazan Aviation Plant named after Gorbunov (KAZ, part of PJSC "Tupolev") to increase the production of Tu-214. This was confirmed by the press service of Rostec.

The state corporation noted that the new facilities of the aircraft plant will be directed specifically at increasing the civil sector for the construction of the Tu-214 with a three-member crew. There is no news yet about the alteration of the aircraft for a two-crew cockpit.

Rostec did not mention the military component of the enterprise, which produces Tu-160M "White Swan" bombers and repairs Tu-22M3s.

As a reminder, the topic of production at KAZ has long been the subject of critical statements. Honored Pilot of Russia Alexander Garnaev stated to "Pervyi Technicheskiy" that it is now impossible to resume production of the Tu-214.

Against this background, news even appeared that KAZ has no orders for the production of the Tu-214. Aviation expert Oleg Panteleev, in an interview with "Pervyi Technicheskiy", also noted that while the promising MS-21 will appear in only one flight range configuration, the Tu-214 has the right to exist.
