"Empty Promises": Aviation Expert Criticizes the Idea of the MC-21 with a Range of 5100 km

Test Pilot Garnaev: There is no truthful schedule for the deployment of serial production, taking into account import substitution

The new Russian aircraft MC-21-310 with PD-14 engines and a declared initial flight range of 5100 km will never be mass-produced. This was categorically stated to "Perviy Technicheskiy" by aviation expert, Honored Test Pilot of the Russian Federation, Hero of Russia Alexander Garnaev.

Garnaev emphasized that in its initially declared form with an operational range of 5100 km with a given passenger load, the aircraft will not be able to reach stable production.

According to him, there is no really truthful schedule for the deployment of serial production of the MC-21, taking into account import substitution and the PD-14 configuration.

There are only regularly changing irresponsible announcements that are not fulfilled from year to year. They are just as easily and irresponsibly replaced by other empty promises through the years.

Against the backdrop of preparations for the serial production of the MC-21, the reason for new disputes about the real capabilities of the aircraft was the adjustment of its flight range — about 3800 km instead of the initially declared 5100 km.
