India may well agree with Russia on the acquisition of a license to manufacture fifth-generation Su-57 aircraft. For the Russian Federation, this is a profitable deal, then the country will be able to expand the production of fighter components, "First Technical" aviation expert, editor-in-chief of Avia.ru portal Roman Gusarov, said.
He recalled that India still produces a licensed version of the fourth-generation Su-30MKI fighter. Such aircraft are considered the elite of combat aviation there.
Su-57 is the same. India will certainly try to obtain a production license in order to have its own industrial potential, because competition with China has not been canceled.
Gusarov did not rule out that Russia would transfer the final assembly of the Su-57 to India. In this case, all components and engines will begin to arrive in the republic from domestic facilities.
It is possible to expand production volumes and sell more products. A license agreement may imply independent modernization of the Su-57, for example, some new missiles. But still, the base for the aircraft will come to India from Russia.
We are talking about a long-term partnership. Countries always value long-term cooperation, and the work on the Su-30MKI showed that we are reliable partners. This is very good, you don’t need to be shy and you need to go for it.
Russian Ambassador to New Delhi Denis Alipov stated that India plans to establish licensed production of the Su-57. According to the diplomat, this should accelerate the implementation of the Indian AMCA program to create its own fifth-generation fighters.
