Russia Rebuilds Civil Aviation: PD-8 and PD-14 Reach the Finish Line

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Savelyev announced the renewal of the aircraft fleet

Russia is actively updating its fleet of domestic aircraft. In particular, this concerns engines for the latest Russian Sukhoi Superjet 100 and MC-21 aircraft, created entirely from domestic components. This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister Vitaly Savelyev.

According to him, PD-8 engines will begin to be used after certification.

The PD-8 engine is currently being tested. Initially, the Sukhoi Superjet 100 aircraft was international, with a Russian-French engine. Now the PD-8 engine is undergoing certification, and we hope that very soon these aircraft will be used with new engines. Currently, about 152 Sukhoi Superjet 100 aircraft are in operation, and they are actively used.

In August, Rosaviatsiya issued an airworthiness directive requiring airlines to inspect 14 Sukhoi Superjet 100 aircraft manufactured in 2016.

Aviation expert Roman Gusarov explained that re-engining the Sukhoi Superjet 100 with the PD-8 will take a lot of time and cost a large amount of money.

Earlier www1.ru reported that the manufacturer of the Be-200 amphibious aircraft with the PD-8 will hide its financial statements amid huge losses.
