Unmanned transport in Russia will only travel on designated routes

The Ministry of Transport does not plan to accelerate the introduction of technology at the expense of safety

Unmanned transport in Russia will remain within designated routes for the next three to four years, according to Minister of Transport Andrey Nikitin in an interview with "Expert" magazine. According to him, the mass exit of such vehicles beyond special "corridors" is unlikely so far.

The minister noted that the M-11 highway serves as an example of a controlled route where the movement of unmanned vehicles is safer due to the absence of pedestrian crossings. The main priority is passenger safety.

Nikitin also reported that the department is monitoring the development of projects for the delivery of products to droneports and expects high demand for such services. According to him, delivery using Yandex rovers is already close to economic payback.

In addition, the Ministry of Transport, together with the government of Moscow, is preparing a federal law that will create a legal framework for the use of unmanned vehicles. According to him, the rover-courier will not fall under regulation, since it moves like a pedestrian.
