To organize a full-fledged assembly line for the Tu-214 at the Kazan Aviation Plant (KAZ, part of the United Aircraft Corporation), the aircraft will have to be redesigned. This was stated by informed sources in the industry.
They drew attention to the fact that currently KAZ's capacities allow the wing to be docked to the fuselage for two months. The problems lie in the shortage of employees, funding issues and the technical base.
To implement mass assembly line production, the Tu-214 needs to be redesigned. What 20 aircraft [per year]?! This would be possible if there were 3 times more people, but it is impossible to find so many. We must stop deluding ourselves. The maximum of the plant (and not even the current one, but the potential one) is 5–6 aircraft per year.
In addition, KAZ needs to work on improving the aircraft, since the Tu-214 technically looks the same as it did 30 years ago. It is realistic to reduce the weight of the aircraft; its increase is largely due to violations of technology during the production process.
The media noted that the production program for the new Tu-214 at the Kazan Aviation Plant is hindered against the backdrop of the successes of the MS-21-310, despite the funding received back in 2022.
Earlier www1.ru reported that the former vice president of UAC explained why the PD-35 engine project was curtailed.
