Development of the TEM885 locomotive to begin in Russia: With a new generation DM-185 diesel engine

Sinara – Transport Machines receives grant for the creation of the locomotive

Sinara – Transport Machines (STM) has received a grant of 500 million rubles for the creation of the TEM885 shunting and transfer locomotive. This information was confirmed by the Governor of the Kaluga Region, Vladislav Shapsha.

The development of the new locomotive was announced in the summer of 2025. The release of a pilot model is scheduled for 2027.

The TEM885 will receive a new generation DM-185 diesel engine with a power of 2000 hp (1471 kW) and a traction force of 400 kN in continuous mode. This eight-axle locomotive (4о-4о) will become an evolution of the TEM7A model and an alternative to the TEM14.

The locomotive will be modernized to meet the needs of the company "Russian Railways". The locomotive will receive remote control, obstacle detection, and video surveillance systems.

The TEM885 will also be launched on the general industrial market.

Earlier, www1.ru reported that the new TE26 locomotive will be presented at an exhibition in St. Petersburg.
