It has been suggested that the name of the Russian airliner MC-21 be changed to something more pleasing to the ear. This proposal was made by the authors of the publication "Technosphere Russia."
They joked that the creative force behind the name was clearly a person named Vasilyev Vasily Vasilyevich with children Vasily and Vasilisa.
A multitude of letters and numbers. And MC-21, frankly, is not the most pleasant name to the ear. "Baikal" and "Ladoga" sound more harmonious. And there won't be that much in common with the MC-21, I mean in terms of concept. The cabin can be made the same. But we don't recall such names in world practice.
The public movement "Veterans of Russia" proposedrenaming the MC-21 and "Superjet" SJ-100 to "Yak-121" and "Yak-100", respectively. They noted that such a measure would help reflect the affiliation with Russian aircraft construction and historical heritage instead of English-language names.
The proposal was made to the advisor to the President of the Russian Federation, Elena Yampolskaya, but there is no information yet on whether it was accepted.
