A detachment of warships from the Northern Fleet, led by the large anti-submarine ship (BPK) "Severomorsk" (Project 1155), conducted a tactical exercise on landing a marine force on an unprepared Arctic island coast. This was reported by the fleet's press service.
The exercises were conducted on Alexandra Land Island in the Franz Josef Land archipelago. According to the maneuvers' scenario, the sailors had to recapture a foothold seized by illegal armed groups. After reconnaissance of the area, the soldiers reported the coordinates of the targets to the command of the "Severomorsk."
The BPK crew launched an artillery strike from AK-100 guns on the positions of the mock enemy. A Ka-27 deck helicopter transferred a unit of marines to the shore.
Later, the large landing ship (BDK) "Alexander Otrakovsky" approached the coastline. The military personnel organized the landing of a UR-77 self-propelled reactive demining unit, as well as two-section all-terrain vehicles.
