The third contact-battery shunting electric locomotive EMKA2, created at the Novocherkassk Electric Locomotive Plant, has completed the stage of control and commissioning tests.
The locomotive is completely domestic and can operate both from the contact network and from batteries without a special charging infrastructure. It can pull a train weighing up to 2000 tons for 14 km without connecting to the network and travel up to 100 km on a battery without recharging.
EMKA2 is designed to work in depots, at passenger stations of large stations and industrial enterprises, where the use of diesel locomotives is undesirable for environmental reasons.
The next stage will be certification tests at the factory and at the VNIZhT experimental ring, including tests of electromagnetic compatibility, vibration level and operation of traction equipment.
EMKA2 represents a significant step in the development of domestic railway transport: it combines environmental friendliness, autonomy and complete Russian equipment, which reduces dependence on imported technologies and expands opportunities for safe and efficient operation at large stations and industrial facilities.
