Honored Pilot of Russia Yuri Sytnik stated that the assembly of 14 new MC-21 aircraft should be considered "a great victory," although objectively they are inferior to Boeing and Airbus products.
The former pilot emphasized that the most important thing is that the MC-21 is a Russian-made machine.
And this is a great victory, not only for the aviation industry, but also a victory for the government and the president himself, because he pays attention to civil aviation, and close attention at that.
Sytnik admitted that he used to criticize the MC-21 project because it was preferred over the equally capable Tu-204SM.
The most important thing is that Russia can make this aircraft independently, without China, without Europe, without the United States. And this is a great victory.
Sytnik added that he flew the MC-21 in different modes on a simulator, and the sensations from it are very good. The avionics and ergonomics of the cabin are no worse than those of Boeing and Airbus, the honored pilot of Russia summarized.
As part of serial production, 14 MC-21-310 aircraft were assembled at the enterprises of the United Aircraft Corporation (UAC, part of Rostec).
