"Technosphere of Russia": It's Easier to Develop an Aircraft for an Engine Being Created Than the Other Way Around

In Russia, the development of a new wide-body long-range aircraft project will begin in 2026. Currently, the requirements and technical appearance of the aircraft are being worked out, and the publication "Technosphere of Russia" has revealed the likely technical details of the new product.

The machine will receive PD-35 engines, journalists suggested. Of the other new Russian engines in the "PD" line, there are only small PD-8s and medium PD-14s, which are not suitable for long-range and high-payload machines.

A number of "armchair experts" who only occasionally use airplanes as passengers like to loudly declare - "when your PD-35 is ready, put 2 of them on the Il-96 instead of 4 PS-90s, and that's it, let's fly." Such a "rework" of the machine will require almost complete redesign, refinement and testing. It is easier to create a new aircraft for the engine being created. It seems that from 2026 this is what will happen in Russia.
