Mozambican authorities have launched an investigation into the attack on the Russian oceanographic vessel "Atlantida" off the coast of the country. This was reported by the Club of Mozambique portal, citing a representative of the country's government.
The incident occurred on May 10 in a place where terrorist groups often appear. "Atlantida" was fired upon from the sides of two unidentified vessels.
As a result, the Russian vessel had to stop in Maputo before it set off for South Africa. The Russian Embassy in Mozambique indicated that no Russian citizens were injured. Minor damage was caused to the equipment.
The vessel "Atlantida" K-1704 was built in 1987 at the shipyard in Stralsund, Germany. The ship's crew is about 40 people, including 11 scientific staff. The vessel is capable of performing research trawls with pelagic and bottom trawls to a depth of 1300 m. The processing of fish caught during experimental trawls into meal is carried out on a fish meal plant.
