«Baikal» aircraft developers miscalculated the wing lift and runway length

Deputy Prime Minister Trutnev explained the suspension of the aircraft production by these factors

The production of the light aircraft «Baikal» was suspended due to an increase in the length of the path required for landing and takeoff of the aircraft. This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Trutnev.

He stressed that the price of the aircraft also increased due to avionics, but this is unacceptable. The developer is the Ural Civil Aviation Plant (UZGA).

We were told: «Let's make it twice as expensive», this is simply unacceptable. They said it was because of avionics, and avionics is such a difficult issue because it determines the parameters of the aircraft's use.
Yuri Trutnev, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation

According to him, a dead-end issue also arose simply with the length of the runway for the «Baikal».

I cannot understand how people could not calculate the lift of the wing. The lift of the wing determines the length of the runway required for an open aircraft. We started with 600 m, then it turned out that 1.2 thousand meters were needed.
Yuri Trutnev, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation

Trutnev stated that the situation with the production of the «Baikal» aircraft is currently at a dead end and its production is not expected. Instead, in Russia, for small aviation, they will focus on re-engining the An-2, the politician noted. At the same time, the Ministry of Industry and Trade denied this information and announced the prospects for work on the «Baikal».

Earlier www1.ru reported that Rostec showed a detailed video of the «Superjet» flight with PD-8 at an extreme speed.
