Ночные поездки на электросамокатах в Екатеринбурге потребовали запретить

Police believe the initiative will help combat drunk scooter riding

In the center of Yekaterinburg, they are going to restrict scooter rentals from 23:00 to 6:00. The corresponding proposal was announced at a meeting of the City Duma commission on life safety by the Deputy Head of the State Traffic Inspectorate, Pavel Krylov.

The reason for the discussion was an accident that occurred on May 1 on Shchorsa Street: a scooter driver drove onto the road, collided with a car, and died. The police believe that the ban will help combat drunk driving.

At 03:00, ordinary citizens have little need to go anywhere on scooters. There are taxis. There is not such a huge difference between renting a scooter and taking a taxi. In some cases, a taxi is even more profitable.

Traffic police officers also proposed restricting the use of electric scooters on 74 sections of roads where the movement of cars and pedestrians is allowed.

During the meeting, other initiatives were also considered. In particular, the idea of introducing special documents for scooter users was discussed, as well as the need for training for those who use personal mobility devices. In addition, a proposal was made to create special zones for parking electric scooters, as well as to introduce a fee for kick-sharing services for the use of municipal property and to block users who use multiple accounts.

Earlier, the Investigative Committee of Russia proposed obliging owners of electric scooters to obtain driver's licenses and set a minimum age for their operation — 16 years.
