Infocom-Avia (part of Rostec) and Aeroflot have entered into an agreement on the operation of the Russian "air-to-ground" digital aviation communication service (ACARS). This was reported by the press service of the state corporation.
The service transmits telemetry from the aircraft to the carrier's control center in real time. It was developed by specialists from Azimut.
Digital communication allows exchanging weather forecasts and instructions with the aircraft commander, including in case of emergency.
ACARS will replace foreign analogues that are unavailable to Russian airlines due to sanctions.
As part of the import substitution efforts, the necessary equipment was developed, a network of ground stations was created, and a data processing center was formed on the territory of Russia.
Currently, about 2/3 of our country's aircraft fleet exchange information through this system.
