Infocom-Avia (part of Rostec) and Aeroflot have entered into an agreement to operate the Russian digital aviation communication service "air-to-ground" (ACARS). This was reported by the state corporation's press service.
The service transmits telemetry from the aircraft to the carrier's control center in real time. It was developed by specialists from the company "Azimuth."
Digital communication allows exchanging weather forecasts and instructions with the aircraft commander, including in the event of an emergency.
ACARS will replace foreign counterparts that are unavailable to Russian airlines due to sanctions.
As part of the import substitution efforts, the necessary equipment was developed, a network of ground stations was created, and a data processing center was formed on the territory of Russia.
Currently, about 2/3 of the country's aircraft fleet exchanges information through this system.
