Workers have begun installing a bridge crane at the construction site of the power unit with the BREST-OD-300 fast reactor in Seversk (Tomsk Region). This was reported by the Rosatom press service.
The lifting capacity of the double-girder crane is 280 tons, and its weight is 223.5 tons. It is designed to move the turbine, generator, heat exchangers and other large equipment. It will take at least six months to install the crane.
The installation of the bridge crane is an important stage in the construction of the power unit. The installation of large-sized equipment of the machine room of the BREST-OD-300 reactor plant is scheduled for 2026.
The BREST-OD-300 experimental reactor (Proryv project) is the world's first so-called Perpetuum Mobile (perpetual motion machine) with a capacity of 300 MW. The NPP will operate on a closed fuel cycle, which guarantees safety and will not solve the problem of spent nuclear fuel disposal.
