The American analogue of the Russian medium-range ballistic missile (MRBM) "Oreshnik" is unlikely to appear before the end of the current decade. This was stated by military expert Vasily Dandykin.
According to him, the United States is seriously lagging behind Russia in long-range missile technologies.
The maximum speed of American missiles is around five Mach. It is believed that "Oreshnik" attacks a target at a speed of 10 Mach numbers or 2.5-3 kilometers per second.
Russia has surpassed the US in hypersonic weapons, the specialist emphasized.
Military expert Vladimir Gundarov clarified that by the time it reaches its orbital altitude, "Oreshnik" accelerates to Mach 11 and from there heads towards the target in a cocoon of hot plasma — additional natural protection for such warheads.
Earlier www1.ru reported that Russia has begun testing the latest satellite communication system for UAVs.
