India Develops Indigenous Glide Bombs with UMPK for Russian Su-30MKI

The munition has a range of up to 100 km

An indigenous guided glide bomb with a universal planning and correction module (UMPK) has been developed for the Indian Su-30MKI. Test footage has appeared on social networks.

The system was developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). The creators successfully conducted live tests of the long-range "Gaurav" glide bomb from April 8 to 10 from the suspension units of an experimental Su-30MKI.

During the tests, the weapon was integrated onto several suspension units with various warhead configurations. A range of 100 km was demonstrated.

The Su-30MKI multirole fighter is produced in India under a Russian license by the state corporation Hindustan Aeronautics Limited. It forms the basis of the Indian front-line aviation.

  • Maximum flight altitude — 17.3 thousand m
  • Thrust-to-weight ratio — 1.0
