A new electric motor for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) has been developed at the Advanced Engineering School of the Moscow Aviation Institute.
With mass production, the new engine is able to compete with Chinese counterparts in its class. The design allows the unit to be installed on air, land and water drones.
Electric motors are mainly produced in China. However, at a comparable cost, the MAI development has better quality materials and higher mass-energy indicators. In particular, at a rotation speed of 6800 rpm, the engine can provide a long-term power of up to 12–13 kW and a short-term power of up to 16 kW.
The developers improved the engine parameters using the author's method of computational modeling. It made it possible to determine the most rational ways to close the magnetic flux. In some cases, the efficiency increase reached 10%.
Earlier www1.ru reported that a small-sized gas turbine engine for aircraft-type UAVs was assembled in the Perm region.
