The Russian manufacturer of geostationary satellites, Reshetnev, received a record-low order in 2024. This was reported by Yuri Vilkov, Deputy General Director for Development and Innovation at Reshetnev, at the XVII Federal ComNews Satellite Russia conference.
According to him, the company was commissioned to produce only five spacecraft. The last time a similarly small order was received was in the early 2000s.
No one will ever leave geostationary orbit, and the launch of low-orbit satellite constellations is becoming an objective reality.
Earlier, www1.ru reported that Reshetnev University in Krasnoyarsk (SibGU) is developing braking propulsion systems for deorbiting small spacecraft from orbit into the dense layers of the atmosphere, where they will burn up. This will help reduce the amount of space debris.
