At the initial stage, Russia plans to produce at least 36 domestic MC-21 aircraft per year. In the future, these volumes should be doubled, considering the intention to enter the export market. This was announced by the Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, Anton Alikhanov.
Our task is to initially reach [a production of] at least 36 MC-21s annually. And then our task is to double these capacities, including, of course, plans for export.
The MC-21 is a Russian project for a short-to-medium-range passenger aircraft, which should replace the Tu-154 and the Tu-204 family on the market. It can also become an alternative to foreign aircraft.
The MC-21 is designed to transport passengers, baggage, and cargo on domestic and international flights. It is planned to create a family of aircraft of different lengths and passenger capacities: 150, 180, and 210 seats respectively.
Earlier, Alikhanov noted that the first MC-21 deliveries under contracts for Russian airlines are planned to begin in 2026. Currently, seven main types of aircraft are in various stages of certification work.
The head of Rostec, Sergey Chemezov, confirmed that the serial production of the domestic passenger aircraft MC-21 is being postponed again, now to 2026. Aviation expert Oleg Panteleev: the reason for this is the unavailability of a number of component products, which complicates the certification process of new aircraft.
