ЦБ: Мошенники стали использовать виртуальные образы банковских карт своих жертв

Attackers "warn" by phone about an attempt to steal money from their victims' accounts

The Bank of Russia has warned about a new fraud scheme involving the creation of a virtual image of a bank card. Attackers call potential victims and convince them that they are about to have their money stolen. To "save" the funds, they offer to urgently install an application allegedly developed by the Bank of Russia.

While the application is being installed, the fraudsters prohibit the use of the device. Once the download is complete, they demand that the application be opened, the card be brought to the phone, and the code from the SMS from the bank be entered. All this is supposedly necessary to "confirm in the regulator's application."

What is actually happening

Fraudsters ask you to install an application that creates a virtual image of the victim's bank card. With its help, they can withdraw money from ATMs contactlessly — simply by attaching their smartphone to it.

What is important to remember

Do not download applications and programs at the request of strangers. Do not use banking applications if someone demands it from you. And never share personal and financial information with strangers.

If you think your money is in danger, call the bank. Dial the number manually from the official website or on the back of the card.

Earlier in Russia, cases of Telegram account theft through fraudulent secret chats have become more frequent. Attackers pose as messenger support and send the victim a message that their account will soon be deleted. They offer to follow a fake link to "cancel the deletion." As soon as a person clicks on the link, they lose access to their account and personal data.
