The Ural Airlines Airbus A320, which landed in a wheat field in the Novosibirsk region in 2023, has almost been dismantled. This was reported in the press service of the airline.
The CFM56 engines, attachments, landing gear struts and avionics have already been dismantled, as has the internal equipment of the passenger cabin. The elements have been sent to Yekaterinburg to assess the possibility of their further use in the airline's fleet.
The fuselage, wings and tail are recognized as unsuitable due to damage sustained during landing and will be disposed of. Work on dismantling the aircraft is scheduled to be completed at the end of February 2025.
Causes of the crash
In September 2023, an Airbus A320 (board RA-73805) made an emergency landing in a wheat field in the Novosibirsk region. There were no casualties.
Rosaviatsia cited the natural wear and tear of the flexible hose of the drive cylinder of the right main landing gear bay door at its connection point as the cause of the accident. This led to the failure of the "green" hydraulic system — one of the three hydraulic systems (there are also red and blue) used to control various aircraft functions.
The pilots made an unreasonable decision to go to Novosibirsk, but due to an error in calculating the required amount of fuel, they did not take into account the increased fuel consumption. They incorrectly determined the actual position of the landing gear and doors after the failure of the "green" hydraulic system. The agency emphasized that the pilots' decision to land the plane in the field was the only correct and justified one.
