The Russian multi-role fifth-generation Su-57 fighter, developed by the Sukhoi Design Bureau, needs only three actions to hit Swedish Saab 340 AEW&C airborne early warning and control (AWACS) aircraft, according to Bulgarian Military.
How many steps does a Russian Su-57 fighter need to shoot down a Swedish aircraft? Basically, only three: detection, engagement, and retreat. Theoretically, it's easy, but in practice — much more difficult.
Firstly, detecting a Saab 340 AEW&C AWACS aircraft is not that easy. Secondly, this is a test of the Su-57's capabilities, as claimed by the developers. Fifth-generation fighters "hunt" for important aerial targets: AWACS aircraft, tankers, military transport aircraft.
The Su-57 is considered a "predator" due to its stealth capabilities and the use of advanced air-to-air missiles. Although some experts are skeptical about the Russian fighter.
As noted by journalists at Bulgarian Military, the Su-57 pilot, after hitting the Saab 340 AEW&C, will easily escape pursuit. Thanks to its maneuverability, the aircraft easily evades counterattacks.
