"Kalibr"-carrying submarine "Velikiye Luki" submerged to 100 meters during testing

The submarine was built for the Baltic Fleet

The multi-purpose diesel-electric submarine "Velikiye Luki" (Project 677 "Lada"), built at the Admiralty Shipyards in St. Petersburg, completed a dive to a depth of 100 meters as part of testing. This was reported by the USC press service.

During the dive, the submarine's crew and shipbuilders checked the operation of all systems and mechanisms of the submarine, worked out algorithms for actions when controlling the ship at depths and with various methods of surfacing.

About Project 677

Submarines of Project 677 were developed by specialists from the Rubin Design Bureau. The series is a development of Project 636 "Varshavyanka" and 877 "Paltus" (in the West they are called the Kilo class).

Submarines of Project 677 are designed to combat enemy submarines and surface ships, and protect naval bases. They are equipped with "Kalibr" missiles.

"Velikiye Luki" was to be transferred to the Baltic Fleet no later than 2019. However, these deadlines have been repeatedly changed. In August 2024, the acting general director of the Admiralty Shipyards, Andrei Bystrov, said that the submarine would be transferred to the fleet this year.
