Russian engineers are developing a solid-propellant intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) with the working title RS-26 Rubezh, based on the RS-24 Yars.
According to data from open sources, the RS-26 Rubezh is a strategic missile system equipped with an intercontinental ballistic missile, an ICBM with improved combat equipment and a multiple independently targetable reentry vehicle (MIRV).
It is believed that the RS-26 Rubezh was created on the basis of two stages of the Topol-M missile system. The same approach was implemented for the older medium-range missile RSD-10 Pioneer.
Probable technical characteristics of the RS-26 Rubezh:
- Launch weight - within 40-50 tons
- Warhead weight - 1.2 tons
- Flight range - up to 6000 km
- Accuracy - up to 150 m
- Can carry a nuclear warhead
