Russia has begun expanding production at five plants that manufacture solid-fuel rocket engines. This is according to the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), citing satellite images from July, September, and October 2024.
Fabian Hinz, a research fellow at the institute, noted that this is "the most ambitious expansion of military production in Russia since the USSR."
According to him, satellite images indicate that active construction work is underway at several facilities. It is also possible that abandoned Soviet enterprises are being modernized and new infrastructure is being built.
Such activity deserves attention, as it has not occurred in the last 30 years. Only in 2023, three decades after the collapse of the USSR, were significant investments recorded in the areas of modernization and expansion.
At the same time, the scientist emphasized that the exact purpose of the expansion of the enterprises "remains unclear."
Earlier, www1.ru reported that an important feature of the Su-57 fighters would allow to detect Storm Shadow even at hypersonic speeds.
