The Federal Institute of Industrial Property (FIPS) database features patent images of a tiltrotor aircraft for ice reconnaissance from MIPT. This drone underwent testing on board the icebreaker "Ural" in 2023.
The drone was used for ice reconnaissance: measuring ice hummocks, ice thickness, and the width of the navigable channel. Equipped with radar, the UAV helped create ice maps and transmitted data to the captain for optimal route planning.
Characteristics of the drone for ice reconnaissance:
- mass — 60 kg
- wingspan — 4 m
- flight range — 200 km
- flight altitude — 2 km
- hybrid power plant: takeoff and landing using an electric motor, and a gasoline ICE is used in flight
- withstands wind speeds of up to 20 m/s during takeoff
- suitable for operation in harsh Northern conditions
