The Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute announced the completion of the world's first scientific expedition on the ice-resistant polar platform (ISP) "North Pole". Russian scientists spent 19 months on it in the Arctic and are now returning home. They are already heading for Murmansk.
From there, the polar explorers will go to St. Petersburg to speak at the International Scientific and Practical Conference POLAR. And the polar explorers will celebrate their professional holiday on May 21 with colleagues from AARI.
Over almost two years, the "North Pole-41" expedition on the world's only ice-resistant polar platform:
- covered about 3,000 nautical miles;
- conducted research in 50 areas of interdisciplinary scientific research: from the stratosphere to the nature of the Arctic region and the bottom of the Arctic Ocean;
- collected data on the state of ice through sensors on board the ice-resistant polar platform;
- provided the scientific world of Russia with up-to-date data on the state of the Arctic environment.
The drifting station "North Pole-41" was opened on October 2, 2022, mooring near an ice field of about 42 square kilometers.
During this time, the polar crew changed twice. The expedition also had to change the ice field, as the original field for research began to collapse.
According to the AARI management, the ISP will go on another voyage in August. The drifting station "North Pole-42" will begin its work in the fall of this year. The duration of the station's operation, however, is not specified this time.
