Russia has offered India to replace the R-77 air-to-air missile for Su-30MKI fighters with the R-37M. Moreover, Moscow is ready to transfer the license for its production to New Delhi. This is reported by Bulgarian Military.
R-37M is a long-range air-to-air missile designed to engage important targets (AWACS aircraft, tanker aircraft) beyond visual range.
The missile is equipped with a detachable rocket booster, which increased its range to 400 km. The speed of the R-37M is up to Mach 6.
R-37M missile guidance system: inertial, with an active radar homing head. The missile's control system includes an advanced digital processor, increasing its accuracy.
The Su-57, Su-30, MiG-31BM, MiG-35 can carry the R-37M.
Characteristics of the R-37M missile:
- Speed of intercepted targets - up to 2500 km/h
- Missile length - 4.06 m
- Fuselage diameter - 0.38 m
- Launch weight - 600 kg
- Warhead - high-explosive fragmentation weighing 60 kg
- GOS acquisition range - 30 km
