Today, the president of AvtoVAZ, Maxim Sokolov, speaking at SPIEF-2023, announced a new model of the company – Lada Iskra.
The new family of cars, which is replacing Granta, will be called Iskra. This decision has already been approved by the board, and it is under this brand that a whole family of our new cars will be implemented in three variations: sedan, station wagon and, probably, a cross-station wagon
According to the head of AvtoVAZ, the start of production of Iskra is scheduled for the end of 2024, the start of sales - for 2025. The Iskra sedan and station wagon will be slightly larger than the current Granta, which will give AvtoVAZ the opportunity to diversify its portfolio, "simultaneously presenting both Granta as the most compact and budget car, and the Iskra family of cars to the market". According to Sokolov, Iskra will be equipped with a 1.8-liter engine with a capacity of 122 hp, and the design of the new family will echo Vesta.
As for the prospects of Granta, we will keep its production for some time, possibly transferring it to another line. In the future, Granta, like any other model, will live out its life and fade into the past
When asked why the new Lada model was named Iskra, Sokolov replied: "This is a new step, the first family of cars produced at a new stage in the life of \"AvtoVAZ\". This is such, let's say, an attraction that is attractive to the market - a spark flew, and you treat it with trepidation, watch its flight. Well, and in the end, it's really fire, it's good. I personally have only positive associations".
