Starting August 15, it will be forbidden to mine cryptocurrency and participate in mining pools in Moscow and Moscow Oblast. The restriction is introduced for more than six years – until December 31, 2032.

Eight municipal districts of the Kursk Oblast and the city of Lgov will also be subject to the ban. The resolution was signed by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, and the document has already been published on the legal information portal.

The capital region was decided to be closed to miners due to the load on power grids. According to the Moscow Oblast Ministry of Energy, about one gigawatt of power is spent on mining digital coins, while such activities do not bring noticeable benefits to the local economy.

Moscow and Moscow Oblast will join the list of territories where mining is already restricted due to electricity shortages. This includes several republics of the North Caucasus, new regions of Russia, and individual districts of the Irkutsk Oblast.

After the ban comes into force, even registration in the Federal Tax Service register will not help. It allows legal mining only where such activities are generally permitted.
