The Voronezh Aircraft Plant in the future risks losing competencies in light of one-off orders for wide-body airliners for the Special Flight Detachment "Russia" and departmental aviation programs. This opinion was expressed in an interview with "Pervy Tekhnichesky" by Yuri Tretyakov, a technical director in the aviation industry.
According to the expert, VASO may gradually transform from a full-fledged aircraft manufacturing giant into a supplier of individual units and components for other UAC programs.
A subjective assessment from experience working at three enterprises absorbed by Rostec — it will not be able [to survive and maintain competencies]. It [VASO] will face the same fate as all the others. In the event of sudden purchases of Il-96 by airlines — exactly the same.
Earlier, Sergey Khlyzov, Minister of Industry and Transport of the Voronezh Region, assessing the situation around the Voronezh Aircraft Plant, openly admitted that civil airlines refuse to take the Il-96 into operation.
