The new Peresvet laser air defense system is capable of disabling satellite electronics at an altitude of up to 1500 km. This conclusion was reached by journalists from CGTN.
In their opinion, the airborne version of the laser weapon system will provide significantly higher effectiveness against satellites.
It is assumed that it will be transported by a modified Il-76 transport aircraft, which forms the basis of the Russian Aerospace Forces.
It should be noted that experts from the authoritative publication Military Watch Magazine also considered the installation of Peresvet on the Il-76, although the complex is initially ground-based.
Extensive tests for the development of such a laser system were carried out on two A-60 aircraft. These are significantly modernized Il-76s, specially designed for such tests.
Reserve Colonel Roman Nasonov noted that Peresvet could be an effective tool, but everything comes down to the ability to provide it with electricity.
The complex has already been tested and entered service in several units. However, the system is used very situationally and selectively, the retired colonel stated.
