"Tekhnosfera Rossiya": Be-200 Re-engining Required a Separate Powerplant Modification

Installing the PD-8 engine on the Be-200 amphibious aircraft will not be a simple replacement of the D-436TP. The new version of the aircraft requires a separate modification of the powerplant, and the program itself will take several years, according to "Tekhnosfera Rossiya".

The D-436TP and PD-8 have different designs and were created for different operating conditions, so transferring the engine to another platform requires separate engineering work. But the primary concern is protection against saltwater and high humidity.

Despite the fact that to an ordinary person the re-engining process seems outwardly simple – "swapping one engine for another similar one" – it is a complex and labor-intensive job that begins at the design stage.

However, in terms of main parameters, the new engine is suitable for the Be-200. The mass of the PD-8 is about 2300 kg, length – 3.6 m, fan diameter – 1.22 m, take-off thrust – 7477–8056 kgf.

ODK head Alexander Grachev stated in May 2026 that work on re-engining the Be-200 with the PD-8 has already begun. However, since then, no footage of tests has appeared online, and the Beriev Aircraft Plant or the corporation's press service have not reported any news.
