Number of Tu-160, Tu-95, and Tu-22M3 in service with Russian Aerospace Forces named

The total number of aircraft was estimated at 115-120 units

The Russian Aerospace Forces have up to 120 long-range aircraft, including Tu-160, Tu-95, and Tu-22M3. This conclusion was reached by foreign researchers, as reported by "Tekhnosfera Rossiya" publication.

Specifically, the breakdown is as follows: 53 Tu-95 aircraft, up to 18 Tu-160s, and about 50 Tu-22M3s. It should be noted that this refers to the total number of aircraft of all modifications, as many of them have undergone modernization.

The lack of precise data on the number of aircraft in the era of advanced satellite tracking constellations can be explained by the construction of protective hangars for strategic aviation.

Previously, such structures were impossible due to the requirements of strategic offensive arms reduction treaties (START), explained military expert Stanislav Krapivnik.

Under the terms of the agreements, all strategic aircraft had to be in the open air, but as of February 5, 2026, this requirement is no longer taken into account.
