Il-96-300 Recognized as Russian 33 Years Later

The airliner was added to the Register of Russian Industrial Products

The Il-96-300 long-haul airliner, serially produced since 1993, only received official confirmation of its Russian origin in August 2026. The wide-body aircraft was added to the Register of Russian Industrial Products.

Information from the register is used in public procurement, the implementation of the national regime, and the provision of specific support measures for Russian industry.

Recall that the Il-96-300 received its type certificate back in December 1992, and serial production at the Voronezh Aircraft Plant began a year later. The first flight of the prototype aircraft took place on September 28, 1988.

Despite this, the Il-96-300 did not become a mass airliner and is only used for special detachment "Russia" tasks. Aviation expert Roman Gusarov explained to "Pervy Tekhnichesky" that VASO is currently unable to build more than one or two aircraft per year.
