Hosting provider RUVDS conducted an experiment, during which, for the first time in history, FM radio broadcasting was carried out from the stratosphere over the North Pole, TASS was informed by the company's press service. The project was implemented jointly with the company "Stratonavtika", Murmansk Arctic University, the state corporation "Rosatom", and Radio "Mayak".

The first stratospheric platform with a transmitter was raised to an altitude of over 30 km directly above the North Pole. In the polar region, there are no industrial interferences and regulatory restrictions on broadcasting in the civilian band, which made it an ideal testing ground. RUVDS CEO Nikita Tsaplin noted that the tested concept could potentially provide radio station coverage for the entire territory of Russia from a satellite. According to him, the experiment was extremely complex from an engineering and logistical point of view, but the result fully justified the efforts.
The second launch took place in the Franz Josef Land area. There, a recoverable stratospheric platform was tested, which, after completing its program, traveled more than 100 km and returned to a predetermined point. Data from sensors and an experimental multispectral camera will be used to assess climate change, monitor marine mammal populations, and track the situation along the Northern Sea Route. Such platforms can form the basis for distributed communication and observation systems in high latitudes.
