The Project 09851 nuclear submarine "Khabarovsk" received an unusual feature that put it decades ahead of its competitors. Instead of the usual multi-bladed propeller, the submarine uses a pump-jet propulsor, according to the American publication Military Watch Magazine.

In combination with noise reduction systems, such a propulsor should reduce the submarine's acoustic signature and make it harder to detect underwater.
The boat is equipped with the latest modification of the OK-650V nuclear reactor. It implements a natural circulation scheme for the coolant at medium power levels. This means that the pumps can be completely turned off, and the reactor will cool itself, operating absolutely silently.
The reactor block and turbines themselves are installed on a so-called "shock-absorbing ramp." The engine does not directly contact the submarine's hull but hangs on complex hydraulic and rubber-pneumatic cushions. Vibrations from the mechanisms are damped internally and are not transmitted into the water.
A few days ago, the "Khabarovsk" was taken out for factory sea trials before being transferred to the Pacific Fleet. The submarine's key armament consists of six 2P39 launchers for 2M39 Poseidon system underwater vehicles.
