Moscow-based developer Konstantin Boyko has created a new drone that can change its configuration directly in flight. With the engine running, its wings fold, and after the power unit is turned off, they automatically return to glider mode.
The designer envisioned an unusual mechanism without complex automation. The movement of the engine along guides via toothed racks is connected to the rotation of the wings. When the engine stops, tension springs return the mechanism to its original position.
With the jet engine running, it can gain altitude or enter attack mode, and after it is turned off, unfold its wings and continue flying as a glider. If necessary, the engine can be turned on again — and the cycle repeats.
Flight in glider mode allows the proposed aircraft to silently, like a falcon, circle over the assigned area.
At the same time, the engineer provided not only a reconnaissance function. After detecting a target, the dispatcher or artificial intelligence can give a command to attack.
The body is made according to the biplane scheme, launch is provided from a catapult, and a parachute compartment is provided for returning the apparatus to the ground. The author also reports that he has already designed a prototype, and the structure can be manufactured using known materials and technologies.
