The new PD-8 engine was built in Russia in just six years – twice as fast as anyone else in the world. However, such speed without working on failures could be costly in the future, warned Alexander Yavkin, chief designer of the Be-200 amphibian.
He wondered what exactly UDC engineers had to sacrifice for such development speed.
Now everything is ours. We are proud that we created the PD-8 engine in the shortest possible time. Why did the apples grow twice as fast? And our officials walk around and happily report to the top. But I wonder what the resource is for an engine made twice as fast as everyone else?
In total, 25 critical technologies were created for the power plant, 17 of them for the first time. The PD-8 passed dozens of complex tests during certification.
Recall that the PD-8 will be useful for new Superjets and for re-engining Be-200 amphibians. There were also rumors that this power plant would become the basic one for a new business jet being built in Ulyanovsk based on the SJ-100.
