Vietnam discussed with RusHydro the possible modernization of hydropower plants and the development of renewable energy. At the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic, Pham Gia Tuc, proposed moving to specific joint projects.
Special attention is to be paid to facilities built with the support of the USSR and Russia. This involves modernizing equipment, improving management and operation, and enhancing the reliability and long-term safety of the stations.
RusHydro stated its readiness to share technologies and experience in maintaining hydropower plants. The company is also interested in energy conservation projects – this task becomes more important as the share of solar, wind, and other renewable generation grows.
The largest joint facility is the Hoa Binh HPP with a capacity of 1920 MW, which was built from 1979 to 1994. With the participation of Soviet and Russian specialists, the Tri An, Yali, and Son La power plants also appeared in Vietnam.
So far, the parties have not announced the signing of new contracts. The relevant departments have been instructed to identify projects that can be implemented together with RusHydro.
