The universal river-sea class dry cargo ship "Saint Petersburg" (Project RSD59) left the waters of the Nizhny Novgorod "Krasnoye Sormovo" plant for sea trials. This was reported by the press service of the United Shipbuilding Corporation (OSK).

On board the vessel is the plant's delivery team and representatives of the Russian Classification Society (RKO). During the trials, they will check the operation of the main engine and rudder propellers (VRC), ship systems, anchor, mooring, and rescue devices. Specialists will also assess the maneuverability and seaworthiness of the dry cargo ship in various modes.

Characteristics of Project RSD59 vessels:

  • Length — 140.8 m
  • Width — 16.9 m
  • Board height — 6 m
  • Number of holds — 2
  • Speed — 10.5 knots

Project RSD59 was developed by specialists from the "Marine Engineering Bureau" to update the cargo civil fleet. In addition to the "Krasnoye Sormovo" plant, vessels of this project are being built at the Okskaya Shipyard and the Nevsky Shipbuilding and Ship Repair Plant. However, the Nizhny Novgorod enterprise leads in the number of dry cargo ships delivered to customers (over 30 units). This became possible due to the implemented flow-line assembly method for river-sea class vessels.
