The German Foreign Ministry summoned Russian Ambassador Sergey Nechaev over an alleged cyber campaign against Germany, other EU countries, and Ukraine. Berlin called such actions unacceptable and hinted at the possibility of introducing additional sanctions.

The German agency did not specify which attacks were in question or which systems might have been affected. The ministry only stated that it had once again clarified its position to the Russian diplomat.

On July 13, EU countries also published a joint statement accusing Russia of "malicious cyberattacks" on European state structures. Among the affected countries were France, Germany, Austria, Slovakia, and Romania. In the coming days, the French Foreign Ministry intends to summon Russian Ambassador Alexey Meshkov.

The Russian side has previously rejected such accusations and called them groundless. The Russian Embassy in Berlin also stated that anti-Russian sentiment was being artificially escalated and unconfirmed versions of cyberattacks were being used.
