In the Netherlands, several private IP cameras along military routes could have become an intelligence tool. Local special services stated that the devices were hacked by individuals whom authorities link to Russia.

The main vulnerability turned out to be not in closed army systems, but in ordinary internet cameras of citizens and companies. By gaining remote access to them, attackers could monitor roads and track vehicle movements.

Experts believe that such cameras help to understand where military logistics pass, what equipment is moving, and what types of weapons might be sent to allies. To do this, one does not need to be near the route — it is enough to gain access to a poorly protected device.

The AIVD and MIVD services warned owners of vulnerable cameras and urged them to strengthen protection. Intelligence states that this is not an isolated incident: similar attacks on IP devices are being recorded in other EU countries.
