Russia is preparing the largest re-engining program for SSJ-100 aircraft. The replacement of SaM146 engines with fully domestic PD-8 engines will affect at least 50 airliners.
The preliminary cost of the program is estimated at approximately 115 billion rubles, which is about 2.3 billion rubles per aircraft. The main part of the costs is the price of a set of two PD-8 engines.
At the same time, work continues to extend the service life of the existing SaM146 engines.
It is significantly cheaper to maintain and repair the current engines, so along with working on re-engining issues, everything is being done to extend the service life of SaM146.
The program will allow preserving a significant part of the existing SSJ-100 fleet until the mass delivery of new import-substituted SSJ-100s with PD-8 engines. Work is planned to begin in late 2029.
